The Sognefjord - High Speed Ferry

AVAILABLE DAILY MAY–SEP

Day 1: Oslo–Myrdal–Flam–Balestrand
Your Sognefjord adventure begins upon your departure from Oslo aboard the Bergen Railway. This initial journey is filled with the breathtaking backdrop of the Hallingdal Valley and the rugged glaciated mountains of the Hardanger Plateau. You will quickly discover why the Eurail guide has called this 300-mile journey the "most scenic rail trip in Europe."

At Myrdal you will transfer to the Flam Railway, a marvel of Norwegian engineering. It is one of the world's steepest railway lines on a normal gauge. The trip begins at 2,841 feet above sea level and spirals around and through the mountain. Along the way, you'll see spectacular mountains, steep ravines, lush valleys, and the thundering Kjos Waterfall.

When you disembark in Flam you will enjoy a leisurely lunch on your own and explore Flam's spectacular natural beauty. Later in the afternoon embark on a Songnefjord high speed ferry ride to the picturesque village of Balestrand. There you'll dine and spend the night at the venerable Kvikne's, Norway's famous wooden hotel. [D]
